The Alamo Area Regional Law Enforcement Academy offers Basic Peace Officer and Basic Correction Officer programs, as well as Basic Telecommunications Certification for individuals seeking licensure through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
In addition, the academy provides continuing education for licensed law enforcement professionals. Peace officers, corrections officers, and telecommunicators are able to advance their proficiency certifications through the intermediate, advanced, and master-level courses available through the academy.

Basic Peace Officer Course
Please note that you MUST be the age of 21 by the date of graduation in order to be accepted into the Basic Peace Officer Course.
An applicant’s first step will be to take the entrance exam. Entrance exam dates can be found here.
Applicants must bring copies of the following documents the day of the exam:
- High school diploma or GED and CollegeTranscripts (unofficial are acceptable)
- Member 4 Form/DD214 (if applicant has prior military experience)
- Proof of auto liability insurance
- Proof of citizenship (i.e., birth certificate or naturalization certificate)
- Valid driver’s license
The BPOC Entrance Exam costs $35. Pre-registering with payment is required through this training portal: www.aarlea.com.
Full-Time Day Classes:
Monday -Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. including two or three weekend training sessions during the course.

Effective December 16, 2022, BPOC tuition for the Basic Peace Officer Course is $3800.
Testing for the BPOC is currently ongoing, testing for all other classes will be posted soon. Please be advised that if the applicant begins the application process, the documents will be valid for 180 days, therefore if you begin the process for a BPOC class (i.e. Bravo Class), you may not be able to apply for a BPOC course that is a few classes ahead (i.e. Delta Class), due to the 180 day expiration date.
VETERANS ADMINISTRATION GI BILL
The Alamo Regional Law Enforcement Academy accepts the V.A. GI Bill. Students who qualify for Veterans Benefits may call (888) 442-4551 or log in to: How To Apply For The GI Bill And Related Benefits | Veterans Affairs (va.gov) for verification of these benefits. Students must notify the Academy that they intend to use this as a source of financial aid. Once approved by the V.A., students will complete all necessary paperwork on Orientation Day. If the V.A. pays the student directly while attending class, the student must make his/her payment on Orientation Day and by the course's Mid-Term. If using Post 9-1-1, the V. A. will pay the school directly.

The Alamo Area Regional Law Enforcement Academy accepts sponsored cadets from Law Enforcement Agencies for the Basic Peace Officer Course.
We can accept the required documents for applicant from the sponsoring Law Enforcement Agency to include an entrance exam, Physical Assessment, Medical/Drug Screen, Psychological Evaluation.

Basic Telecommunications Licensing Course
Requirements:
Effective January 1, 2014, this training is now a licensing course required of all new telecommunication specialists. The course must be completed within one year of hire by an agency. Participants must meet state minimum standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), pass the course, and pass the TCOLE state exam in order to become licensed.
Prior to starting section 4.2.4: students must have a current, nationally recognized Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- This includes, but is not limited to, courses from the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. The CPR course must be taken in-person and the student must complete practical scenarios for adult/infant/ AED to be certified.
- The student must present a current and valid certificate to the training provider.
The class is open to individuals who are already working for a law enforcement agency and are seeking to obtain their licensing requirements mandated by TCOLE.

**Before registering for the Basic Telecommunications Course, all applicants must first take the AACOG Entrance (TABE) Exam. Please call 210-362-5291 to schedule the TABE Entrance Exam**
